Prestigious Scholarships and Awards

Available Award Opportunities

UCR undergraduate students are encouraged to review the award listings to determine the best award that meets their interests and long term goals. Interested students should consider attending any of our Student Engagement Information Sessions as early as their sophomore year. These workshops will provide guidance on selecting recommenders, preparing compelling personal statements, interviewing, and developing a project proposal or proposed program of study. Visit our events page for information to RSVP for an upcoming information session.

UCR students are recognized nationally and internationally for their academic excellence as reflected by the number of prestigious awards earned.  Since the office was established in 2013, Undergraduate Education has provided support and guidance to prepare qualified students to be competitive in applying for prestigious scholarships, fellowships, and internships. The Director of Student Engagement coaches students on awards that may be the right fit, counsels on application details, and assists with refining personal narratives and interviews to ensure stronger applications.

In addition to maintaining a strong GPA, students are encouraged to build their resumes early with involvement in activities that demonstrate leadership and intellectual curiosity. Students will be guided on optimizing research experience, leadership roles, community service, employment, internships, publications, conferences, and volunteer work to impact changes in their fields. Each of these experiences helps students build a record of accomplishment in scholarship, leadership, and commitment to community service while defining the students’ goals and focus.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is a national award that provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs in over 160 countries.

The U.S. Student Fulbright grants support an individually designed study/ research plan, artistic project, or English Teaching Assistantship that will take place during one academic year in a country outside the U.S. Applicants may be undergraduate seniors who anticipate graduating, master’s or Ph.D. degree candidates, and/or young professionals. Application is limited to one country program or geographic region.

UCR CAMPUS DEADLINE: AUGUST 15

The purpose of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation is to alleviate a critical current and future shortage of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. Students who plan to study medicine are eligible for a Goldwater Scholarship if they plan a research career rather than a career as a medical doctor in private practice. Applicants should have a strong commitment to research and be able to articulate specific research questions to which they intend to devote their professional life. Each scholarship covers eligible expenses for undergraduate tuition, fees, books, and room and board.

The full application, including letters of recommendation, is due by the campus deadline. Campus interviews will determine award finalists. UCR may nominate up to four students to compete for the national scholarship.
